MAGAZINE AND CHARACTER DESIGN
PROJECT BRIEF
To create a highly rendered game character illustration that will be put on the cover for a new gaming magazine GAMIT. The completed front cover must be a highly finished mock up that is engaging to the gaming community, thus it will require a unique masthead and eye-catching character design! The final figure will be put into context (scene) to complete the cover art.
RESPONSE
The final gaming character ‘ZapC4t’ is dynamic, unique and the use of complimentary and saturated colours as well as the characters dynamic pose creates an eye-catching final magazine design!
The mastheads typographic design utalises geometric shapes to give a futuristic feel while remaining clean and readable; not drawing attention away from the character and surrounding information on the cover. The construction of the final magazine cover is effective in communicating the idea of introducing a thrilling new character for a game!
DEVELOPMENT
The background was hand-drawn using pastels on black paper in order to create dynamic contrast. Light pink, orange, teal, yellow and white colour tones where utalised to craft a powerful and eye catching image while still remaining soft!
This background was dimmed using Adobe Photoshop in order to not distract from the main magazine character and information!
The masthead typography design was created using Adobe Illustrator through the construction of angular and geometric shapes!
